Midnight Sun & White Nights in Estonia
In June the sun barely dips below the horizon along Estonia's north coast. Rent a car and follow a sky that never turns black — from limestone cliffs to island beaches.

Why you need a car
White nights happen in places where public transport doesn't go — and certainly not after sunset.
Midnight timing
The magic starts at 23:00 and lasts until 02:00. Rental cars don't have timetables.
Coastal roads
The most beautiful stretches — Türisalu to Käsmu — have no bus lines at all.
Freedom to overnight
Stop when you like, sleep in a guesthouse, or watch the horizon from your car.
June weather
Nights can be cool. A car lets you carry blankets, thermos, and a camera tripod.
Island ferry link
Hiiumaa requires a car ferry from Rohuküla. Schedules are easy with your own vehicle.
Photography access
The best viewpoints need short gravel detours that buses will never take.
5 stops where the sky never sleeps
From the cliffs outside Tallinn to the wild beaches of Hiiumaa — a north coast route built for June.
The White Night route
A 2-day north coast loop that chases the midnight sun from cliff to island.
Tallinn → Türisalu
40 km. Pick up your car and head west. Reach the cliff by 21:00 — the light will still be golden.
Türisalu → Lohusalu
15 km. A short hop to the bay. Walk the beach at 23:00 in full daylight.
Overnight near Käsmu
Drive 50 km along the coast. Sleep in a guesthouse where the birds start singing at 1 AM in daylight.
Käsmu → Vainupea
20 km. The northernmost point. Watch the 'sunset' merge into sunrise without true darkness.
Vainupea → Rohuküla ferry → Hiiumaa
90 km + ferry. Cross to the island. Ristna beach for the grand finale of the white night.
Plan your trip around June 20–25 for the brightest white nights. The closer to the summer solstice, the longer the glow.
